Who we are
Your Speech Writer (yourspeechwriter.co.uk) is run by Russell Marsh, trading as Your Speech Writer. We are responsible for the personal information described in this policy.

What we collect
- Your questionnaire answers. The names, stories and details you give us so we can write your speech. These are often about other people, such as the person you are speaking about. Please only share what you are happy for us to use for this purpose.
- The date of your event. After you buy, you can choose to tell us when your big day is. We use it only to time one email asking how it went.
- Payment details. Payments are handled by PayPal. We never see your card details. PayPal tells us that the payment went through and gives us the email address on the payment, which we use to send your speeches.
- Technical information. To stop the free previews being misused, we keep a scrambled (one-way encrypted) version of your internet address for a short time. We cannot turn it back into your actual address.
- Visitor statistics. If you accept statistics cookies, Google Analytics tells us how visitors use the site, such as which pages are popular. If you reject them, Google Analytics is not used for your visit.
- Suggestions. If you use the “Need a different kind of speech?” box, we keep what you wrote and, if you give it, your email address so we can let you know if we add it.
- How you use the site. If you accept statistics cookies, Microsoft Clarity records how visitors use our pages, such as taps, clicks and scrolling, so we can see where the site is confusing and make it easier to use. Anything you type into the questionnaire is hidden from these recordings.
- Your email, if you ask us to save your speech. If you choose “Email me a link” on the preview screen, we use your email to send you a link back to your speech and one reminder the next day, and nothing else. You agree to this when you ask for the link, the reminder is cancelled if you pay or use the “don’t remind me” link in the email, and your email is deleted along with the unpaid preview after 30 days.
How we use it, and why we’re allowed to
- To write your speeches, show you the preview and deliver the full versions: this is necessary to provide the service you asked for (contract).
- To take payment, prevent fraud and misuse, and keep records we are required to keep: legitimate interests and legal obligation.
- To understand how the site is used and improve it: your consent, through the cookie banner. You can change your mind at any time using the cookie settings link.
- To reply to you if you contact us: legitimate interests.
- To send you one email after your event asking how it went and inviting you to leave a review: legitimate interests. We never send this after a eulogy, and you can opt out with the link in that email or by emailing us. If you choose to leave a review, you do so on Trustpilot, under Trustpilot’s own privacy policy; we do not pass your details to them.
We do not sell your information, and we do not use it for advertising.
Who we share it with
We use a small number of trusted companies to run the service. They only use your information to do their job for us:
- Anthropic, whose AI technology we use to write the speeches. Your questionnaire answers are sent to Anthropic to produce your speech. Anthropic does not use them to train its AI models.
- PayPal, to take payments.
- Google, for visitor statistics (only if you accept statistics cookies).
- Microsoft, for Clarity, which shows us how visitors use the site (only if you accept statistics cookies). Microsoft also uses this information as described in its privacy statement.
- Our web hosting provider, which stores the website and its data.
Some of these companies are based in, or process data in, the United States. Where information leaves the UK, it is protected by safeguards approved under UK data protection law, such as the UK–US Data Bridge or the ICO’s standard data transfer agreements.
How long we keep it
- Previews that are not paid for: deleted after 30 days.
- Paid speeches: kept for 12 months so your link keeps working, then deleted.
- Payment records: kept for 6 years, as UK tax law requires.
- Suggestions: kept until we no longer need them, and deleted on request.
Your rights
You can ask us to give you a copy of your information, correct it, delete it, or stop using it. Email hello@yourspeechwriter.co.uk and we will reply within one month. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
Cookies
We use a few essential cookies to make the site work, and, only with your permission, Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity cookies to count visitors and see how the site is used. You choose which you accept in the cookie banner, and you can change your choice at any time.
Children
This service is for adults. You must be 18 or over to buy a speech.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page.
